Isn't It Ironic?

I read these stories in one of the books I translated in Indonesia and I thought I'd share them with you. Unfortunately I forgot the title of the book he he he...

Before I start,
I want to apologize if I miss some of your comments. It seems that since yesterday Blogger has been borked in delivering notification on your comments to my mailbox. So it's been a bit tough for me to follow all the comments. Sometimes I get only one for one post, though there have been four already!!! Geez...I sure hope the problem's fixed soon. :-))))

* When Pablo Picasso lived very poorly with his first girlfriend, they were so happy. However, once his paintings were sold at high prices and they moved to a big house, she started to be so extravagant that he couldn't take it anymore. Thus, happiness flew away from their love nest. What a pity!

* Charles Millar (a Canadian lawyer and financier) left large sums of money to certain people in his will just to test how far they would abandon their principles for money. He left shares in a racetrack to a preacher and a judge who were against gambling. What did they do? They both accepted the shares.

He also left shares in a brewery to a group of churchmen who strongly opposed alcohol. All of them except one accepted the shares.

He also left $500.000 for the winner of a contest he created. What contest? The contest about whichever woman from Toronto who has given birth to the greatest number of children by the end of the tenth year from his death. The prize money was shared by four winners who'd each given birth to nine children (all the kids had to be alive to qualify for the contest). To read more info about this contest, go to Stork Derby.

Ah...the things we do for money...What WOULD you do for money?

First ATM Card, First Telephone, and Teenage Years

Mel Kaye's post entitled "Life Before the Computer" took me straight back to the past.

One of the first things I remembered was the first time I had my ATM card. These days most banks in Indonesia almost automatically issue ATM cards when you open a new account. However, I only applied for my ATM card in 2000. As usual, I was encouraged to change my PIN number, so I went to an ATM booth to do so with trembling fingers. Mind you, I was SO scared of punching the wrong button and then having my ATM card "swallowed" by the machine. After all, I had NEVER touched an ATM myself before then.

The second thing I remembered was the first time we had a home telephone. It was probably when I was around 13 years old. I was told to test the phone and again my heart went pitter-patter when I first dialed and my throat felt dry hi hi hi hi...Well, until now, I often feel my throat getting dry if I have to call someone that I don't know well he he he...

Ahem...then my memory took me to my teenage years. I remember that when we were in Junior High School (13-15 years old) until High School (15-17 years old), we used to go to shopping centres every Saturday to window shop. And when they saw a bunch of us coming into the stores, normally the salespeople or the shop assistants weren't so keen on seeing us. We knew what they were thinking of. "Urrrggghhh...teens again! They probably won't buy anything in the end. Let's just hope they don't steal anything from here!"

Well, none of them was nasty, but still when we wanted their help, we could tell that most of them weren't too enthusiastic in helping us. On the contrary, after graduating from the university, we must've looked more mature, but the irony was that we started to be "chased" by the salespeople. They were SO enthusiastic in trying to sell us something. Now what we wanted when we were teens became our curse HE HE HE HE HE HE...Anyway,
I always tried to avoid walking near the salespeople in the malls in Indonesia after I became an "adult" - at least after I was considered a "valuable customer" by those salespeople he he he he...

Life's SO full of ironies, don't you think so? Life's so VERY fragile, yet it's the fragility itself that makes is SO valuable.

Ah well...this is just one of my random babbling posts again he he he he...Now I'm going to studyyyyyyyyy 'coz yesterday I only studied for a few minutes HI HI HI HI HI...My bad!!! Anyway, have a PEACEFUL and FUN weekend, everybody!!!!!! ;-D
