3BT: Random Days

1. I almost dropped a doughnut while taking it out of the bag. R2 and I were sitting in the kitchen at that time, about to drink coffee. I saw R2 smiling after I almost dropped the doughnut.

Me: "Hey, don't smile 'coz I almost dropped the doughnut!"
R2: "I'm not smiling 'coz of that. I'm smiling 'coz I'm happy. After all, I have you!"
Me: (awwwwwwing inside) "Unfair! That's an unexpected response!" (smile)

2. Made some banana-chocolate pastries for my coworkers which became a hit (and I could share with them how easy to make it, too). Glad to know they liked 'em! :-D

Recipe: a box of frozen pastry (mine has 5 sheets of frozen pastries), some bananas, and some chocolate. Let the frozen pastry out in warm temperature until it's soft, then cut them into thin strips (around 2.5 cm wide) then cut a banana in half. Wrap the half banana with the pastry strip diagonally until it's all covered. Do it until you're out of pastry and bananas. Bake them in the oven until they're golden brown. Let them cool off for a while. Then melt some chocolate (I prefer dark chocolate around 200 grams) with a little butter and smear it on top of the pastries. All done! :-D Result: 10 banana-chocolate pastries.

3. A customer saying nice stuff to me that made my eyes wet. BLESS YOU, each and every single one of you! I'm REALLY blessed by your words!

4. Talking to Mom on Skype after she got back from Taiwan with her friend. Glad to know she had fun and that she only felt a little unwell once during a bus trip but after taking some anti motion sickness pill, she felt much better.

5. The very slow translating project I'm doing for a customer is nearing its end. Only about 20 pages left, though I still have the big task of editing my translation, but it's always nice to know that a project is almost ending. :-D It feels like almost completing a marathon (not that I've ever been in one, though).

6. Being able to enjoy Winter Wonderland scenery this month already. Even though the snow has mostly melted now, but it was such a treat!

7. Start listening to Christmas songs already....HO HO HO HO HOOOHHHH...

A Mother's Prayer

The other day I called my Mom through Skype and she told me one other prayer she had for us (her kids). She had told me one prayer she had for us when she was in labour room. She said that she prayed that God would help smoothen our paths each step of the way, but I never knew she had another prayer all these years he he he...

The second one is that she prayed for a "normal" life for us without any huge "gap" between us - for example she wouldn't wish that one of us would become so rich whereas the other one could be so poor. She just want us to have enough of everything. And I must say that so far her prayers have come true.

Most of all, I'm SO VERY thankful for having a praying mother who loves us equally, who listens to us, who understands us, who supports our decisions, who guides us without forcing her wishes upon us, who doesn't make us feel guilty about anything (including her sacrifices). And I can't wait to meet her and the rest of my family and friends again sometime soon in Indo!!!! Yep, counting down to our Indo trip he he he...

3BT: Random Days

1. New workers are coming soon to help us at work. We've been understaffed for a while now, so it's about time that they come before everything becomes chaotic.

2. Fresh bed sheets and clean floor.

3. Patient customers who tell me not to hurry when I half-run to serve them. BLESS THEM!

4. BAPAO!!! (AKA sweet bread dumplings) I found frozen bapao in a supermarket here and I'm going to buy more to stock them in the freezer. YEEEAAAHHH!!! ;-D

5. Becoming hubby's shadow. I have this habit of holding him from the back and following him around every now and then (usually after he takes his nap), making it hard for him to move around freely when he tries to make himself some coffee HUE HE HE HE HE HE...

6. Reading these words in this beautiful post:

Laura Bush, in her recent book, writes:
The English language lacks the words to mourn an absence. For the loss of a parent, grandparent, spouse, child or friend, we have all manner of words and phrases, some helpful some not...

But for an absence, for someone who was never there at all, we are wordless to capture that particular emptiness. For those who deeply want children and are denied them, those missing babies hover like silent ephemeral shadows over their lives.

Who can describe the feel of a tiny hand that is never held?
7. Talking to my Mom on Skype and listening about Ken's antics.

8. Chit-chatting with a few customers - one of them made me laugh so much with his jokes. :-D

9. Having a hubby who is very gentle, soft spoken, patient, and he makes me laugh so much.

10. My friend invited me to join a Finnish learning group in FB so I can ask anything I want to a proper teacher for free and I just joined it. YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!! ;-D

11. Having true friends that I can trust, that never betrayed me, that I can count on.

2. Another customer complimented on my Finnish. I'm TRULY grateful for anyone who speaks out their minds to make other people's days brighter. Bless him!

3. Another customer said to me, "I know one Japanese word. Hajimemashite!" I felt sorry to tell him that I wasn't Japanese, but I was really touched at his effort to be friendly! Bless him too!

4. Daydreaming about going back to Indo and planning about it and talking about it with hubby 'coz later on they'll ask us when we want our summer holiday, so now we know when we want to take it: September!!! ;-D Let's just hope my workplace gives me the permission to take an additional week off in September.

5. Talking to Mum via Skype and listening to whatever stories she has for me. :-D

6. Understanding even more that God's timing is really perfect (hindsight view always helps me understand more things in life).

7. Not feeling too "soul-tired" anymore (a term that Michelle Frost told me) - thanks to her and all the wonderful customers I've met at work.

8. Having two days off (I was supposed to get only one day off, but a coworker swapped her work shift with mine).

9. Hubby, for being who he is, for never having raised his voice at me and for buying me pepper steak yesterday.

10. Mint ice-cream, hot chocolate, fresh smoothies, and hot milk tea with honey. ;-D What can I say? I'm a foodie! :-D

We have no right to ask, when sorrow comes, "Why did this happen to me?" unless we ask the same question for every joy that comes our way.
~ Philip S. Bernstein

And all of a sudden the world became A THOUSAND TIMES brighter! :-D :-D :-D

7. Crying out all my pent-up fears, doubts, anxiety, stress to God and feeling good afterward, 'coz I know He understands every single thought and emotion even though I don't need to use words.

8. Excitement 'coz I'm going to call my Mom via Skype today.

9. Hearing this beautiful quote while watching "The Curious Tale of Benjamin Button":

"You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went
You could swear, curse the fates
But when it comes to the end
You have to let go..."

Last Post Before Rhodes

This morning almost had a heart attack when I asked hubby where his passport was and he told me that I was the one who took it and put it somewhere (he meant when we moved here 4 months ago). I didn't remember a thing about it and I almost panicked...until I remembered that he brought a waist bag to Indo, so I went to get it and ta-daaaa...the passport was still tucked there safely!!! PHEW!!!

Anyway, this is my last post before Rhodes 'coz tomorrow we'll be at my in-laws' the whole day (R2's eldest brother and family are here in Lapland for 2 weeks) and 'coz we shouldn't sleep too late tomorrow. We should start driving to Oulu at around 10 am on Sunday 'coz it takes around 5.5 hours to get to the airport there. We'll only arrive in Rhodes at around midnight, though he he he he he he...

So now we're almost set except for a few last-minute things that we should pack only then (like toothpaste, etc.). I called my Mom a few days ago after not having called her for a while due to my busy life, so we talked for about 1,5 hours on Skype HE HE HE HE HE...Always such a pleasure to talk to her and listen to her stories.

When I was working as a translator (I worked from home full-time, so whenever I felt fed up with work, I could just stop and go to the malls to refresh myself) and after my friends got married and got busy with their hubby and kid and family life, I had plenty of time to go out with Mom. Because Mom sold food at the traditional market, she had afternoons off, though I had to make sure first that she had finished cooking for the next day, but still it was easy to ask her out with me. She loved going to the cinemas, too, 'coz when she was young, the cinema was probably the only entertainment she could get. She'd go to the cinema every week when she was young.

So we'd just go around the malls, relaxing...and sometimes we'd go watch a movie and we'd eat out. Sometimes I took her to have a facial and a body massage. I miss doing that with her, but I'm GLAD I got plenty of chances to do it with her when I was in Indo. After she had trouble with her knee joints (one time she couldn't even walk), I didn't dare take her out to the malls 'coz I was afraid that window shopping would make her feel so much pain. But still sometimes even during that period, she'd want to go out with me, so on some good days when the pain wasn't too harsh, we'd go to the malls and we'd stop to sit down a lot or I'd just pick a movie so that she didn't have to walk so much.

Funny thing is that if she liked the movie, then she'd totally be awake. But if she didn't like the movie, there would be moments when I found her dozing off in the cinema ha ha ha ha...But don't you people worry, after Mom started taking glucosamine MSM tablets to add oil to her joints, her knee is fine again.

OK, enough reminiscing (I guess I just miss her!) he he he...the other day something happened that I should also add to my list of "unimportant things that make me happy":

a. When my hands or feet are cold and R2 tries his best to warm them up by holding them tightly with his palm and rubbing them with another palm.

b. When my gentle kicks work in making R2 turn around and stop snoring at night (sometimes he falls asleep first and snores and then I'd have trouble to fall asleep).

c. Piles of snow in December.

d. Going to the cabin with R2 - esp. 'coz that was the place where he proposed me.

e. Watching the fat bees gathering honey in summer in my in-laws' garden (in Indo I've never seen such fat bees 'coz in Indo the bees are usually "taller" and "slimmer" - not "short" and "fat") - they're SO cute!!!

f. No long queues here in Sodankylä wherever you go.

g. Reading something that inspires me, that encourages me, that motivates me, that makes me feel understood, that makes me feel that I'm not so alone in the world.

Okay, time for me to blog-hop a bit before watching a movie he he he he...Enjoy Alexander Rybak with "Fairytale'", the winner of Eurovision 2009.

See ya around after we get back from Rhodes!!! Take care, everybody!

3BT: Random Days

1. Hubby got headset for free from one of the computer stores he frequented due to his job and he gave it to me HUE HE HE HE HE HE...

2. Today I found The Undomestic Goddess - Sophia Kinsella on a discount in a bookstore here (they're having summer sale). It was supposed to cost €10.90 but I bought it for only €3.90. WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I spoke in Finnish there even though I knew one of them spoke perfect English HE HE HE HE...Good practise! ;-D

3. When I walked home, a boy on a bike greeted me and I greeted him back with a smile. Yesterday two boys greeted me, but I was too shocked to greet them back as it all happened too fast he he he...

4. I've begun to see more flowers blooming here and there. Summer's heerrreeeeee!!!

5. I've got a date with my new friend this Friday. Since hubby's going to have a boys' only night out, then I can have this date with her HO HO HO HO HO HO...

6. God's PERFECT timing. Upon reviewing my past, now I understand more why He wanted me to wait and wait and wait. Some things in the past that were as clear as mud have become crystal clear now and I'm THANKFUL for His open and closed doors and for His temporary blocked doors.

7. Talking to my Mom via Skype again. I always HAVE FUN talking to her, listening to her stories of my relatives so that I know how they're doing these days. ;-D And hearing her say that she'd stock up some of my fave food prior to my visiting Indo made me SO HAPPY HE HE HE HE HE HE...

And the fact that she supported my wish to go to Singapore (if we have enough money) even though that meant that I'd be having less time to be with them meant THE WORLD to me. She's always SO supportive!!!

8. Meeting an old friend in YM and being able to chat with her for a long time. WHOOOPPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I truly missed talking to her as she'd been too busy to catch up via emails, so that was really a WONDERFUL opportunity to catch up with her. ;-D

9. Took a nap for 2,5 hours yesterday. Boy, I definitely needed that!!! Having PMS makes me feel tired so easily. (Unfortunately, just like the image below, I also drool while sleeping LOL LOL LOL!!! But I have no shame in admitting it hi hi hi...)

10. Peace of mind, a nice bed, a nice apartment (albeit slightly dusty due to my laziness HA HA HA HA HA), health, and a funny, wacky, loving husband who ALWAYS makes me laugh (even when he's not trying to do so HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...)

There's Always a First Time for Everything!!!

I haven't had time to blog-hop or anything much today. First of all, I called my Mom for an hour via Skype hi hi hi...and then right after that I met a close friend of mine in YM (the one who doesn't have a computer at home), so we chatted for a while. Then I had to do something online and then hubby came home for lunch.

Then just as I was getting ready to blog, somebody called me. I didn't look at the number since I thought it was my Brit friend calling. Imagine my surprise when I found out that it was the office calling, the one that organized the Finnish course.

I'm rather glad that she spoke clear Finnish and the phone line was clear (we don't have any home phones, just mobile phones). And I'm GLAD that I could understand most of what she was saying. She said that today's class is cancelled since the teacher's sick. I was going to ask her if the next class is cancelled as well, but it took me a long time to think of how to form the sentence, so by the time I was going to ask her that, she had already said goodbye.

It was actually the FIRST time I had ever received a phone call when the other person talked in Finnish. I was glad that I didn't get nervous BEFORE I got the call, otherwise I probably wouldn't have understood A THING he he he he...

I contacted another friend of mine about it and she said that Thursday's class is on. For some reason, I've mixed up the days, as well. The course used to be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but now it's on Tuesdays and Thursdays hi hi hi hi hi...

Phew!!! Gladly it was a short call. SU, another friend of ours, says that she prefers talking face-to-face in Finnish rather than making a phone call, 'coz then at least she can use her body language to explain what she wants to convey, but you can't do that over the phone, right? Well...technically you can, but what good would it be? HE HE HE HE HE HE...

Okie dokie, now it's time for me to blog-hop and then I should go to the supermarket to buy some milk (yes, again hi hi hi hi).

3BT: December 23, 2007

1. I just got a SURPRISE gift (and will get another one later) from my Brit friend. She sent me a voucher for Skype Out 'coz she knows I use Skype to call my parents.

I TRULY TRULY ABSOLUTELY appreciate this!!! Plus she said she had ordered something for me that would come much later. Oh dear...so many gifts!!!!! I'm TRULY BLESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My cup RUNNETH OVER!!!

3BT: December 20, 2007

1. Seeing hubby adding some ribbons to one of my gifts to make it look nicer. *grin*

2. Talking to Mom via Skype. Now that I'm getting some income, I can buy Skype credit myself = I can call my parents more often. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!

4. Buying some frozen pastry 'coz I plan on making some luumu torttu (plum pastry) today. The anticipation is killing me HUA HA HA HA HA HA HA...

5. Something funny happened this afternoon. Hubby came home for lunch break at around 2 pm, then I asked him to give me a ride to a supermarket. He did so, then while I was on the check-out counter and I was about to go home, I spotted a VERY familiar jacket and I realized it was HUBBY!!! Since it's a very small village, he went to the office and then he had to go back to that same supermarket to fix something there HA HA HA HA HA HA...It was SO funny!!! ;-D

6. Hubby calling me not long after that, asking me where I was since I was first planning on going to Lidl afterward. I guess he was done fixing something in the supermarket and so he wanted to give me a lift to Lidl since I had many things to carry already. Bless him!!!

7. It's a very small village here, so it only takes him one minute or two to get to his office from our apt. And since the supermarkets are located downtown, it takes only the same amount of time to drop me off in one of them since there aren't any traffic jams here. I'm GRATEFUL for this, since a friend of mine who works in Jakarta spends at least a total of 3 hours each day on the road to go to her office and back home.

It's always SO nice to hear that they're getting along very well and they're having SO MUCH FUN. It's good to have people to talk to and to have fun with during their old age. Ahhhhh...I can imagine already how wonderful it must've been for them, laughing and talking so much.

4. My sister-in-law also wrote me a short email which made me smile and laugh HE HE HE HE HE HE...

5. Coffee-cream pudding (bought from the supermarket) MMMMMMMMMMMMM...Yum, yum!!!!

3BT: November 9-10, 2007

1. Talking to my brother and my Mom via Skype. They're a bit under the weather due to the changing season, but they're fine and the wedding invitations are all printed and ready to be sent.

2. Watching shimmery snow under my feet. When I walked outside as it got dark, I realized that under the light of the street lamps, snow looked like a sheet of gazillion tiny particles of diamonds, shimmering in the dark. It was SO lovely! All those years watching snow on TV, nobody's ever told me about this! It was SO magical! I wish you could see it for yourself (for those who haven't experienced it): sparkly, shimmery snow...mmmmm...

3. The joy of making my first "perfect" cake for Father's Day with hubby's help he he he he he...

4. Tucking hubby under the blanket on the couch after he got home from work. Mmmm...

5. Seeing my in-laws and hubby enjoying the cake I made and then hearing them say, "It's GOOD." Ahhhhh...such a delicious feeling!!! *wink*

6. MAKING MY OWN SNOWMAN with the help of hubby! He he he he he...I'll post it tomorrow he he he...

8. Finding a cheaper Dean Koontz book online to buy for my hubby's Christmas gift ho ho ho ho ho ho...SPLENDID!!!

9. Coming home in the car, feeling like I was being on top of the world and then flying he he he he he...I could feel my entire body bursting with joy, joy, joy!!! I could literally feel every pore in my body bubbling over with joy. It felt SO good to magnify every single WONDERFUL moment that I had experienced and absorb it completely.

3BT: September 24, 2007

1. Buying a cute pipo that I'd been wanting for some time and found one with a reasonable price. *grin*

3. Helping my hubby untangle the cables of the many speakers he he he he...

4. Helping him find a place to put his VHS videos ('coz now one of the shelf's used to put one of the many speakers).

5. Talking to my friend via Skype and finding out that she was fine. She's 6.5 month pregnant and the other day she told me that she felt contractions already over and over again, so she was treated in a hospital to make sure the fetus was fine. Actually, she's a doctor who works in a mission hospital in Borneo, Kalimantan. I haven't heard her voice since last November, so it felt SO nice to talk to her, even for just a few minutes. ;-D

6. Tickling my hubby and hearing him purr contentedly like a cat ha ha ha ha...

2. Seeing the fallen leaves dance with the wind. It was a BEAUTIFUL dance!!!

3. Receiving some pics of my Mom and relatives from my cousin. My Mom went to a wedding party of her uncle or something in Jakarta with her sisters and brother and my cousin. She said they had a WONDERFUL time as she spent a night at her niece's place and they dined out together. Here's the pic. (Since my family don't have a digital camera, this is the first time I've seen my Mom's pic since I left Indonesia!!!!)

Left to Right: Mom's eldest sister, Mom (the shortest), Mom's second eldest sister and her daughter (my cousin). I MISS THEM ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Imagining the taste of berry yoghurt. I just bought some HE HE HE HE...YUM YUM!!! ;-D

3BT: August 4, 2007

1. Sending messages via Skype to each other. We have two computers at home, one on the left corner (mine) and another one on the right corner. All of a sudden he sent me a LOVELY Skype message, so I replied him by sending "dirty" messages. HE HEH!!! I MISS doing that ever since we lived together!!! ;-D

2. HOT Singaporean instant noodles with an egg on a cold day like this (12'C). YUMMY!!! My stomach definitely smiled SO widely afterwards.

3. Toffee buns with coffee. Funny thing is that this morning I was planning on baking them. Just now my hubby took them out of the freezer to bake 'em. I LOVE being in the same wavelength!!! YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

4. The baby blue sky smiling at me despite the cold weather. Hello, world!!!! ;-D (I LOVE BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!)

5. Running as fast as possible towards the door and grabbed my hubby when he came home and hearing his delighted giggle. ;-D I LIVE for those moments!!! ^____________________________^
