A Foodie's Website!

By now most of you probably know that I'm a foodie. I love browsing for recipes online and trying out new recipes. Unfortunately I haven't had enough time to try out more recipes lately, but I've found another good recipe site for you to try in case you love cooking and baking. And if you're also fond of sharing your own recipe, you can become a member of this site and put up your recipes there.

What I love about this foodie's website are these:

1. They provide complete nutritional facts for every recipe. Thus if you're truly health-conscious, you can search for the most suitable recipes for your needs here. Plus if you want to know the nutritional values of a recipe for FREE, then you can submit it to this website.

2. A very practical glossary. The words are highlighted, so if you're a newbie in cooking and baking, you don't have to search high and low for explanations.

3. Readers can submit their own reviews. I've always loved this about a food website. After all, even though people have different tastes, but if more people mark the recipe as a great one, then I'll be more liable to try it he he he...

4. They have ALL KINDS of recipes on their site, starting from appetizers, salad, sandwich, diabetic recipes, vegetarian recipes, etc.

5. Becoming a member is FREE!!!

Even if you're already an expert in cooking and baking (like my Mom), sometimes you want to try other people's recipes, right? Then this is the right website for you to go to, especially if you're planning to have a party and you want to try making or baking something different. You can also discuss ideas to make new recipes and cooking and baking techniques with fellow members.

Ahhh...on my free days later on, I'll make sure I drop by this site again to try something out. Why don't you visit this site, too? ;-D

Strawberry Bread Pudding

This is another one of my experiments. Found this recipe in this website: Strawberry Bread Pudding. Mind you, it's not the regular Indo "pudding", but it's still tasty.

1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen strawberries, thawed
2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter, melted

1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 slices bread, cut in 1/2" cubes (4 c.)
2 slightly beaten eggs
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt

In small saucepan combine undrained strawberries and cornstarch. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens and bubbles. Spread evenly over bottom of 10"x6"x2" baking dish. In mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Add bread cubes to moisten. Carefully pour custard mixture over berries. Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 55 minutes. Serve warm with cream if desired.

Here are the results:

Banana Bread Recipe

Yep, time to share my baking experiments. I browsed LOTS of sites and found this one: Yummy Banana Bread Recipe.

3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cup of flour

No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180'C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

I actually added rhum into the mixture as somebody who commented in that site said that it would taste better. Then I also added strawberries (we have LOTS of stock of frozen strawberries from my in-law's garden last year), so I actually made banana-strawberry bread. It was tender and moist. SO VERY YUMMY. I brought some for my in-laws and they loved it! :-)))))

Here're the pics...
