Paperwork + Packing

Today we went to the bank again to sign SO much paperwork he he he...We were also offered home insurance and car insurance with a discount, but we'll have to compare the cost first with some other insurance places before we sign any deal to get the best quote. We're also offered MasterCard without any annual fee 'coz then that card offers travel insurance (whereas Visa doesn't), but we have to think about it first - I'm not going to apply for the card 'coz I don't even have any salary, but R2 might change his.

When I first saw the figures of the home and car insurance quotes, I was shocked...but after I divided it by 12, the cost per month isn't that high he he he...but this proves that there are really many other side fees when you own your own house versus when you just rent an apartment he he he...

This evening and this weekend we'll be moving stuff to the new house bit by bit. Our internet connection will be moved to the new house at the beginning of next month, so if we happen to move already next Saturday or Sunday, I can only get online on Monday. But then again we'll be so busy unpacking everything during the first few days we're there anyway he he he...

R2 still has to deal with some other type of paperwork that we have to get within 6 months before the whole paperwork deal is over. Phew! It's interesting, though, to know what kind of paperwork that one has to do to seal the deal here. I mean, I've never owned a house in my entire life, so I don't even know how it works in Indo he he he...here now I know a little bit about it and the extra costs that come up just to seal the deal - the notary fees, the bank fees, the fees to get other types of paperwork.

One thing that we didn't calculate was the number of windows there are in a house. After I counted them, I was thinking to myself, "Do we have to buy many more curtains?" But while packing things, I realized that R2 has already plenty of curtains of different patterns hi hi hi...and I KNEW they must've come from his Mom (there's NO way he'd buy spare curtains if he doesn't need any), so I did ask him about it and he confirmed what I knew already hi hi hi...THANK GOD for thoughtful Moms!!! That means we don't have to spend money for curtains in the near future - if we want to buy new ones, we can, but at least not in a hurry 'coz we've already spent so much money.

The other night I was thinking to myself, "Hey, now that we have some lawn, we can have a small barbecue party in summer. YIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" And yeah, I started daydreaming about the time when my parents and brother and family can come visit me, 'coz we'll have plenty of rooms for them he he he...

OK, enough rambling. I've been trying to think of participating in some writing contests, but first I need to find IDEAS on what to write!!!! I'll blog-hop later...

Why Didn't I?

A few months ago I read a blog post on Blur Ting's sons helping her out doing house chores and I wondered why I didn't help my Mom more often when I was younger. Then I remembered something that happened when I did try to help her.

First of all, mind you that I was such a sensitive child. Secondly, back then my Mom sold food in the traditional market, so she had to cook a lot of dishes when she came back home from the market (other than the fact that she had to cook our meals, too). Thirdly, my Mom had been working in the kitchen since she was very young, so she knew which was which and she had learnt to be a fast cooker, chopper, or whatever she had to do.

While I was still in Elementary School, sometimes I wanted to help out in the kitchen...BUT due to my inexpertise and slowness, my Mom sometimes snapped at my "incompetence". My little heart was SO hurt by her words and impatience that I just refused to help out too much back then. I remember writing in my diaries how I "hated" experts 'coz they were so impatient.

Now, looking back, I realized that she didn't mean those words and that she was a driven woman who was used to working at her own pace and she had demands to fulfill (she knew how many types of food she had to cook each day and how long it'd take to do it and I was just "on the way" 'coz she had to teach me from ground zero). So, she probably felt it was MUCH better to do things by herself 'coz of the reasons mentioned above.

This made me realize, as well, that in order to get help, you have to be willing to receive it - even if it means that you need to "teach" the helper. If the helper can't deliver what you expect him/her to be, you can either stop getting the help from them (if you have that choice) or you can try to teach them to do things the way you want them to be.

P.S. I'm happy to say that now that my Mom's grown older, she's grown to be more patient (esp. 'coz she can't do things as SUPER fast as she used to anymore).

Best Moment, Fatigue, and Conference Chat

I'm pretty tired again today, so I'm not going to write long yet. I just wanna write down the best moment that happened last night. My Valentine wasn't anything special, but it was simply marvelous when we laughed a lot in bed before we went to sleep and then ESPECIALLY when hubby said, "I'm proud of myself for having you in my life." Mmmmm...I almost shed a tear he he he he...He really scored LOADS of love points by saying that to me HO HO HO HO HO HO HO...

I also wanna say that the other day I had a conference chat in Yahoo Messenger with three of my friends from Indo. They are all young mothers (read: their babies are less than a year old). It was kinda funny when I joined the chat room. They were busy talking about their babies and their progress. They also shared some of their concerns as mothers. Unfortunately I couldn't relate to them even though I understood about their concerns. I just couldn't share anything personal with them except what my own mother told me about me when I was a baby he he he...

It was nice to get a glimpse of a mother's life, but then in a way I also felt alienated, since I couldn't really comment much. I'm not saying this because I don't want to have another conference chat with them, because it was still FUN no matter what!!! But it reminded me of the fact that when you haven't really experienced something, even though you know the theories, you still can't wholly understand the depth and breadth and height that experience can affect yourself. Plus each experience is unique in itself. Thus it reminded me that I really know nothing. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Knowing nothing is better than pretending to know everything or believing that you know everything, when in fact, you don't know that much. Knowing nothing is better just as long as you want to continue learning.

Gee...this is what happens when my brain is affected by fatigue and coffee. I go babbling about such a topic, even though I wasn't really planning on writing much. I guess it's tough for me to write a short note, unless I only have 10 minutes ha ha ha ha ha...

But you don't mind that, do you? HE HE HE HE HE HE HE HE HE...

Anyway...my Mom sent me an email today. She said that there was a concert in one place in Bandung which became chaotic. Lots of people got drunk and some people got killed by being trampled upon. Gee...such a nice way to die! And yes, I'm being sarcastic here!

Good news is that Dad's finally got some fish. My brother bought some for him and he'd buy more later on. Dad's been SO excited about getting some fish for himself so that he has something else to do he he he he...My brother told me that he had cleaned up the aquarium given by my brother's wife's Dad very joyously and diligently. It reminded me of the time when my Dad was unemployed and then he started buying fish as a hobby and he and Mom managed to sell many fish that was pretty popular at that time. Mom helped Dad make "tasty" food for the fish so that they would get the best nutrition to produce offspring he he he he he...

OK, I'm going to stop here and maybe I'll blog-hop tomorrow or Sunday. My brain is really muddy right now. Wish you a WONDERFUL weekend ahead! ;-D

P.S. Read something this morning which really hit the nail on the head:

Grief changes our perspective on life...how we deal with sorrow will make us either bitter or better.

This and That...

So many things to say, so little time...so let me just try to write this post quickly.

1. Watched Evan Almighty last night. Here are my fave quotes from the movie:

"How do you change the world? By doing one act of random kindness at a time."

"If you ask God for patience, do you think He will give it to you just like that or do you think He will give you the OPPORTUNITY to be patient?"

"If you ask God that your family be closer, do you think He will give it to you just like that or do you think He will give you the OPPORTUNITY to be closer to your family?"

I must say that the movie has some touching moments and funny moments. It isn't TOO funny, but still it's not too bad he he he...

2. The other day I chatted with a friend of mine. She said that she was stuck between a couple. Both parties trusted her and told her about their relationship problems. However, they wouldn't talk about it to each other...at least not yet. My friend's got a dizzy head now 'coz she can't possibly tell on each other's TRUE feelings, as it means she's betraying their trust.

I wonder why do people do that? I'm not talking about your partner's idiosyncracies or annoying habits. It's a risk you have to take for being together with someone and you know as well that the other person'll have to handle your idiosyncracies. I'm talking about serious problems that NEED to be solved. If they're not solved, then the relationship will be sour or the problems'll pile up and there will be an explosion sooner or later.

Back in Indo, my Mom's also in the same position. Her brother told her about his marriage problems, and then his wife also told her about the same problems from her point of view. Mom tried to give advice to each one of them gently so that they could talk things through. However, none of them was willing to do it. Each of them pointed fingers at each other, saying that the other wouldn't listen to them, anyway. Why should it be that way? I know that sometimes you have your guard up and the other person also has his/her guard up, but shouldn't they TRY to do something to save the relationship other than just vent to a third party? Shouldn't they TRY to do something to save the relationship AFTER they seek for advice or suggestion from a third party?

I posted this discussion on MyLot (I've been trying to make some money online by going to MyLot), and it seems there are various reasons. These are the things they said hindered the couple from talking things through:

1. Ego.
2. They don't really want to try to solve the problems. They just need someone so that they can vent their emotion.
3. Fear of confrontation or hurting the other person's feelings.
4. Sometimes in a relationship there comes a point when talking is unbearable. (Gee, I sure do WISH it won't happen to us!!!)
5. Fear of not being listened to.

Oh well...I know a relationship is HARD WORK, but if you're not even trying to make it work, what good things can you expect from it???

3. To all mothers out there, I have a question for you: What are the hardest things in motherhood based on your personal experiences?

;-D You can either tell me here or write a post in your blog he he he he...I'm just curious 'coz I'm not a mother yet, but I want to know what a mother thinks or feels.

OK, time for me to go to the supermarket. I'm planning to make my own pizza from scratch, so it's gonna take A LONG time ha ha ha ha...

Before I forget, let me just add this quick list of 3BT (Weekend Wrap):

1. Sunny weather without a single cloud in the sky on Saturday.
2. Playing cards with my mother-in-law, hubby, and mother-in-law's sister and I LOST HA HA HA HA HA HA...
3. Making my mother-in-law and her sister laugh by (almost) forgetting to take my bag when we were going back home hi hi hi hi...Boy, I'm SO forgetful these days!!!
4. Hiding my hubby's yoghurt while he wasn't looking HI HI HI HI...We were preparing to watch a movie and then he realized that his yoghurt cup was gone HI HI HI HI...
5. Though hubby pretended to sulk for a little while (he refused to share his yoghurt with me), after he was done, he went to the fridge in the middle of the movie and poured me some yoghurt after all. YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!
6. The smell of strawberry and banana wafting to my nostrils whenever I opened my fridge door. Heaven!!!!
