Evil
Evil is in me
The most devastating kind
It knows all my weaknesses
So it prods each and every one of them
With the most debilitating spear
Over
And over
Again.
God, it hurts so badly!
I let all my voices have a debate
Until it's high time for me to heal again.

Wanna hear the voice of evil inside me? Here goes...one of my darkest moments...
Ever try to do something well and then when you see other people's work, you get SO discouraged 'coz their result is so out of your league? You realize that you're only a beginner, a novice. There are times when it seems that what you're doing doesn't really matter, at least that's the accusation brought by your own mind. Then other negative thoughts start to shout at you, louder and louder. You beat yourself up to a pulp, yet there's still another voice inside you that says, "Get real, woman! Please have enough grace and kindness for yourself, shall we?"
I'm welcoming this bloody battle, though. I know there's something good that I'll find after this storm has passed. Having more spare time than others can sometimes feel like a curse. You try to give your best but then nobody seems to have enough time to acknowledge it. I don't want praises, but I want to know that my existence is acknowledged. But by wanting the acknowledgement, I feel SO selfish and self-absorbed. Thus I start to beat myself up again. And the obnoxious cycle continues.
This is one of the moments when I think (again, for the umpteenth time) that the world is sick to the bones. People are so busy nowadays that they can't focus on anything too much. Minutes come whirling by so that everything becomes a blur, except those things you consider "important". Or maybe it's just me who's sick by having this kind of thought. Maybe people are meant to be SO busy because most people are SO busy anyway. Maybe I'm the one who's sick because I have so much spare time and I'm not as busy as others.
One way or another, I know that I'm sick and I need to heal.
Today is a VERY sunny day and I truly enjoyed walking outside and enjoying the new life bursting around me. The grass's getting greener and greener and nature seems to be comforting me. I still LOVE this life no matter how sick the world is. ^______________________________^
P.S. At first I was reluctant to post this as I didn't want to spread "negativity" but I guess it's good to share the negative emotions even before I conquer the battle. :-)))

Bad Weather
Ahhhh...such bad weather today! Gladly I went shopping yesterday already. I've just realized how crucial it is to check the weather prediction in a 4-season country. Back in Indo, the worst thing that could happen was raining cats and dogs and thunders. Well, I know that there have been natural disasters there, as well, but still over here the temperature can drop pretty quickly and if I'm not prepared for it, then it's doom (especially since I'm not used to the cold weather yet). If you wanna check the weather prediction in Lapland, just visit "Everything About Lapland" link at the bottom of my blog. There's daily weather prediction there.
Anyhow, I shudder at the thought of the worst temperature next winter. Yeah, yeah, I'm crazy for thinking ahead. That's one of my Achilles' heels (and one of my strengths, too). I just feel unprepared for it. I don't have long johns that would be warm enough for it. A friend of mine (a British lady) who's been living in Sodankylä for 3 years said that the worst temperature they had ever experienced was -38'C. Yikes!!! I guess I better buy a few VERY WARM long johns later on. I can't help thinking that all the residents of Lapland must be Polar Bears he he he...*grin*
Apart from the fact that Sodankylä's a small town, whereas Bandung is a big city, I've enjoyed my time here. There are two flea markets here that are open like regular stores here, Löytötori and Kirpputori. I've been to both and I found some cheap used shirts (YIIIPPPIIIEEE!!!). I didn't bring too many clothes from Indo as I could only bring 27 kilos of my belongings. There's also now another flea market somewhere downtown that's only open for a certain period of time. I've also been there a few times (my mother-in-law suggested that I visited it more than once as the stuff sold there kept on changing, she said) and I found T-shirts and a summer jacket on a VERY reasonable price. ^____________________________^
So, even though there are no malls here, whereas there are PLENTY of malls and factory outlets in Bandung, Sodankylä's allright. What I enjoy most here is the serenity and peace and nature. Lots of trees and birds, especially now in spring. I can hear birds chirping whenever I go downtown. And there's NO traffic AT ALL! No jaywalkers.
Oh yeah, by the way...about a month ago I found something that reminded me of me and my friends. A Katana! It was the first and only Katana I ever saw here. The Katana was parked on Lidl's parking lot. Back when I was at uni, two of my closest friends owned a Katana, and we used to drive around the city in their cars, so it brought back SO MANY wonderful memories of my past. Ahhh...the good old days, when we had nothing to worry about except exams and exams and exams he he...
Speaking of the weather again, sometimes I don't feel like summer's ever going to come here. I know that the temperature can be above 20'C later on and even reach 30'C for a day or two, but looking at the weather this past week makes me wonder. It seems unlikely as even spring comes so late in this town. Oh well...one thing I miss is wearing only jeans and T-shirt or tank top without having to put on layers of clothes he he he...but I ain't complaining. I'm living my dream now, living in Europe. ^______________________________^
Okay, that's all for now. I better start studying Finnish again. I'll write more later. Ciao!!!

Where Did Who Go?
The other day my husband and I went to his cousin's place. His cousin has a 2,5-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son. His daughter, P, is such a happy little girl. I must say that I'm amazed whenever I look at that angelic blonde girl with blue eyes as I have never really seen it that close in real life. Sure I've seen lots of blonde girls with blue eyes on TV, but not in real life.
As I was just beginning to learn Finnish, of course P's Finnish was MUCH MUCH better than mine. The first time we met, she asked me to play with her. Basically I just followed her around and did whatever she wanted me to do. At the end of the day, when my husband and I were going home, she asked her Dad with a concerned face, "Dad, doesn't she speak?" Hubby and P's Dad laughed out loud when they heard the question, but I didn't understand it first, so I asked R2 about it in the car and it made me laugh, too. :-D R2 also said that her Dad tried to explain to her that I couldn't speak Finnish yet.
Anyway, the other day I did meet his son, too. He kept on staring at me whenever he could as though I had been a Martian. Even when he was talking to his Dad or Mum, he did his best to stare at me. I guess when you're old enough to understand differences between people and races, you know when you've encountered someone who doesn't "belong to" your own group. It's ironic that P NEVER stared at me. She looked at me just as a fellow human being, someone she could play with, not as a Chinese with almond eyes and jet black hair.

Another funny thing happened that day. P asked me to follow her upstairs to her playroom. Then she started "playing" with every board game that she had, even though she didn't really follow any rules, so I just played along. After some time, my bladder couldn't hold it anymore. As P's brother came into the room, I thought he would distract P's attention, so I tried to sneak by downstairs to go to the toilet. Unfortunately P noticed it and she asked me to come back. I tried my best to explain that I had to go to the toilet.
So down I went. I didn't exactly know what happened after that, but when I came out of the toilet, P and her brother were in the dining room with their mother. So I joined my husband and his cousin in another room.
On the way home, my husband told me that right after I went into the toilet, P came running downstairs and asked her Dad, "Dad, where did who go?" Apparently she didn't remember my name. Her Dad and my husband laughed out loud when they heard that question.
Funny little girl. :-)))) I still giggle now whenever I remember her innocent question. Yesterday I asked my husband to tell his parents about the incident (we visit them on Saturdays), and they both laughed out loud as well. :-))))

Twilight
Around 1,5 months ago we came by to Arttu's parents' place in Kelujärvi. Another sunny day again. When we were driving home from their place at around 6.30 pm, the view was breathtaking! His parents live in a village, so there're vast stretches of fields everywhere (currently still covered with snow), so during the drive home, whenever we were passing the aforementioned fields, I felt as though I was blanketed by a limitless sky. Well, after living in a big city all my life (huddled by loads and loads of high buildings) and now living in a village (or small town), the world suddenly gets SO MUCH wider, bigger, unobstructed.
Anyway, here are some beautiful pics of twilight I took with Arttu's mobile camera yesterday. Too bad I didn't bring my digicam but I'll make sure I'll take it with me next time. Just click on the pics to see the original version. These pics don't even come close to representing the real beauty of nature, but I just wanna share it with you.
