The other day during lunch break, I had an interesting conversation with a course friend about books. He said that he started reading English books (Charles Dickens' novels) when he was 16 years old. Quite an accomplishment! I think I only started reading thick books like that when I was at the university HA HA HA HA HA HA...
Anyway, he said that he loved Dickens' writing style and that he loved reading old books since they weren't filled with much violence like current books. He also said that he loved Jane Austen's "Emma" since he loved the way she described things.
On the contrary, I didn't really enjoy reading "Emma" that much. I found that her description was too much for my taste. My friend told me that that was exactly why she loved Jane Austen.
I told him that I wasn't really good at imagining things based on writers' descriptions. My brain is never that good at imagining 3D objects. That's one reason why I prefer watching fantasy movies like LoTR or Harry Potter since I find that my visualisation will always be poorer than the wonderful scenes in the movies.
I love reading books with philosophical messages. I also love reading funny, witty novels and of course thrillers HE HE HE HE HE HE...And naturally I still LOVE reading Japanese comics HA HA HA HA HA HA...
How about you? What kind of books or writing styles do you like most? What makes you tick when you read books?
Hm... nowadays my hubby influences me to read self empowerment book... about built to be blessing, ken blanchard, john maxwell.. etc.. :-)
