3BT: Random Days

1. This funny conversation between two female and a male at a supermarket.

F#1: (tapping the other female's shoulder in front of her) "Good evening, girl."
F#2: (turning around) "Oh, good evening, girl."
M: (behind the two of them) "Evening, girls."
F#1: (turning around) "Evening, boy. Well, we are both girls and you are indeed a boy."

Hint: All three of them were retired HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHH...LOVE a good sense of humour!

2. Hubby went away for a pre-Christmas party with his boss and coworkers and I got a sweet SMS from him.

3. Despite the fact that someone got sick at work and there was nobody else to replace her and it was the day before Finnish Independence Day (when the store got closed), it went very well at work.

4. Our store is closed for Independence Day, so everybody at work definitely gets a day off. :-D

5. Listening to this Christmas song:

3BT: Random Days

1. A mistake in reading turned into a funny episode at work.

What was supposed to be "täytetty pasta" (stuffed pasta), I accidentally read "täytetty paska" (stuffed shit). I was reading it way too quickly, but it made me (and other people) laugh he he...

2. Playing Town of Salem in FB, invited by hubby and laughing out loud when playing it together. One time he managed to kill me and trick me. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

3. Waiting for another book to come (another one from my wishlist), courtesy of Bookdepository again, because they offered me another great deal, so naturally I couldn't resist he he he he...What I love about the site is that I don't have to pay for postage and they always deliver pretty fast. Plus they give me (free) cute bookmarks. :-D

4. I believe I've married a genius. He has made me laugh many times over even when he's not trying. And he always has the ability to calm me down in ways that I had never seen anyone do. If I thought I picked the right guy to marry over 8 years ago, I had no idea just how right my choice was! Oh, and it was a privilege to be able to tell him all this face-to-face. :-D

5. Being alive still and being able to spend time with hubby.

6. Buying Father's Day's cake on a discount because I went to the store an hour before it was closed down the day before Father's Day and claiming the cake to be our anniversary cake (our anniversary was 6 days before Father's Day in Finland and because the both of us have no fathers left, I changed the cake's title HA HA HA HA HA HA...).

7. Ordering a bike bag online and then realizing that one zipper was broken and that it was much too small for my taste, so I reported it and got my refund pretty quickly. It was nice doing business with that site.

8. Ordering another bike bag from another site and it finally came right before the old bag broke down. It's a little bit smaller than the old one, but much better than the small one with the broken zipper.

9. Deciding to make my own Christmas cards this year (something out of character for me because I'm not a handicraft lover) and finding some great deals on craft packages to make them. Oh, and it's finally Winter Wonderland here! The temperature went up a while back, making all the snow melt away and now we have fresh snow all over. YEAAAAAHHHHHHH! :-D

3BT: Random Days

1. Me: "Am I good?"
Hubby: "Yep."
Me: "Am I bad?"
Hubby: "Yep."
Me: "So what am I then?"
Hubby: "Perfect."
Me: SUPER WIDE GRIN HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHH...(didn't expect him to say that at all, making it all the more sweet!) 2. Feeling like I am a very funny person when I'm with hubby. In the outside world, I don't feel that I'm this funny.

3. We watched Despicable Me 1 and 2 and then hubby said that Agnes reminded him of me in some ways HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...Now every time I do something that reminds us of Agnes, we both grin at each other LOL LOL!!!

4. Watching this beautiful performance. I can't believe the cyr wheel feels like the extension of her body. AMAZING!!!

5. Reading this article: Confronting The Lie: God Won't Give You More Than You Can Handle.

6. This beautiful quote:

At some of the darkest moments in my life, some people I thought of as friends deserted me - some because they cared about me and it hurt them to see me in pain; others because I reminded them of their own vulnerability, and that was more than they could handle. But real friends overcame their discomfort and came to sit with me. If they had not words to make me feel better, they sat in silence (much better than saying, "You'll get over it," or "It's not so bad; others have it worse") and I loved them for it.

- Harold Kushner, Living a Life that Matters

Happy New Year, people! Wishing you all a year filled with all the things you need and some nice extra surprises along the way he he...

Training Trip

The other day my coworkers and I were sent to a city to have some training. It was two day training, so we had to stay overnight in a hotel. My first trip with my coworkers that included an overnight stay in a hotel. The first day was an evening shift whereas the second day was a morning shift. One funny thing happened on the second day. I was walking ahead of my coworkers towards the front door of the store where we had the training the day before and the girl who was standing behind the door looked confused to see us. I had a big backpack 'coz we had checked out of the hotel already and she probably thought I was a crazy tourist or something LOL!!!

She waved one hand to show that the store wasn't open yet, then she opened the door when I kept on walking towards her and she said in Finnish, "We're not open yet."

I explained to her why we were there and she smiled apologetically. She wasn't there the day before, though, so it was only normal that she had no idea that we were coming there that day HA HA HA HA...

glitter-graphics.com

After the training, I had a chance to meet my friend at her new place, so it was all good. She cooked a great dinner for me and then she drove me to the bus stop. It was already around 8 pm by then but the sun was shining low on the sky and it was shining right at us. VERY warm and nice! I was glad it wasn't raining 'coz the weather report said it would rain when I checked it a few days beforehand.

Anyway, the trainer was excellent, but I wasn't sure how well I was doing considering it was all done in Finnish and there were just LOADS and LOADS of new pieces of information to absorb and remember. While waiting for my friend to pick me up, I managed to write down a list of the most important things to remember so that I had something to hold on to before the real practice day came. We also had some practice during training and I felt a bit all over the place to be honest.

However, today I went to work just to buy some stuff and then my boss was there and he told me that the trainer was pleased with my effort during the training. I was really surprised and TOUCHED!!! (I remembered to thank him). I was surprised 'coz I didn't even ask how I was doing, but it was nice of him to let me know verbally anyway.

You see, being the only foreigner in the group, I do rely perhaps more heavily on other people's feedback to figure out whether I've performed well enough in my tasks, esp. when I'm doing something I never did before in the past (because I want to make sure I understand fully what I'm supposed to do and what they're expecting from me). I'm VERY thankful that my coworkers and boss don't treat me differently and they treat me as well as the other coworkers. I'm also VERY thankful to hear any type of feedback so that I know whether what I'm doing is right or wrong.

Anyway, I hope you'll all have a blessed weekend ahead! I surely will enjoy mine fully! :-D

The Play: Suurenmoista

Been busy, so haven't had time to blog-hop or drop EC cards. As you all know, Saturday was our culture trip day and yesterday was Father's Day in Finland, so we went to Kelujärvi to celebrate it. But first thing first...let me tell you about the play.

Yeah, yeah, I put the bubbles just for fun hi hi hi...Anyway, turned out that my choice of clothes was SOOOOO wrong!!! Why? Because when we got to Rovaniemi, it was slightly raining, so the snow was melting and it was SO wet!!! My beautiful white trousers were SO dirty by the time we arrived at the theatre at around 6 pm and I was slightly ashamed as other people were wearing beautiful clothes he he he...Oh well...

First we went to a furniture store and other stores. We found some nice pillows on a discount for us and my MIL. R2 found a nice computer chair that he'd been wanting and the price was OH, SO right!!! So he bought it right away. Then we went to a mall and browsed around and bought a few Christmas gifts and we found a Father's Day gift for my FIL.

After that we went to Rax's Pizza Buffet for dinner. It's the type of place where you could pay one price and eat as much as you could hi hi hi hi...There are pizzas, chicken wings, salad, soft drinks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, lasagna, potatoes, and sausages. You can also buy a package with ice-cream cone, but we didn't get that one. Boy, we were SO full afterwards.

Anyway, after that we went straight to the theatre to pick up our tickets (R2's second brother had booked the tickets online and reserved the best seats so we only had to pay for them). Unfortunately of course I couldn't take any pictures while the play was on, but here are a few pictures I took around the area and while there was a break.

First pic: the ticket he he he...Vasen means left, so we entered from the left door. Rivi = row, paikka = seat number. So I sat on the 8th row on seat number 191.

Here's a map of the seats and I've marked my seat number with an X there. What's FANTASTIC about the seat arrangement is that my head is between the heads of those people sitting in front of me, so even though I'm short, I can still have a rather clear view of the stage.

I took a booklet and here's the page about Suurenmoista. The English title is Glorious!

There's this big banner inside the theatre building. ;-D

Here are the cast (marked with an X). Unfortunately I missed taking a pic of some others, so the marked ones aren't the complete cast he he he...

How was the play? FUNNY!!! It was the first time I went to a real theatre. It was smaller than I thought, but it was WORTH IT!!!

The first act was 50 minutes long and I must admit that I understood it more than the second act, though it's still easier to understand than watching a ballet show as I can still see their body language and stuff. There were parts that was HARD to understand, esp. when they spoke SO fast and more than one person talked at the same time. Phew!!! But all in all, I understand the gist and I understand some of the jokes FULLY, though some others I don't really get as they must be playing with words and there were definitely words that I didn't understand.

I'd love to find out how much MORE enjoyable it'll be after I've lived in Finland for 10 years and then I'll go watch this type of show again, though. ;-D

Anyway, the lighting and set and background are FABULOUS and the singing, too!!! The main character who plays Florence Foster Jenkins is WONDERFUL! She managed to sing "in an ugly, VERY funny fashion" every once in a while, though she still managed to show off her beautiful voice.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the ending where the main character and the pianist sang a duet...LOVELY, LOVELY, LOVELY!!!

We clapped and clapped and clapped until they came out THREE times he he he...It was a night to remember!!! I must say that I wonder how I'd feel like later on if I have the chance to watch my fave the Phantom of the Opera. I think even if it's done in ANY language, I'd understand it nonetheless as I've read the novel, I've listened to the CD over and over again, I've also watched the 1990 TV version and the latest movie version, as well. I KNOW the story so well that I wouldn't mind watching it in any language he he he he...

OK, enough babbling. Let me blog hop a bit and then I have to go to the library to ask about the training thingie. *cross my fingers*

Oops...almost forgot...two last pics: us inside the theatre and a pic of the stage, although it's not too clear as we had to use a certain feature so that the background of the "stars" could be seen, but it made some objects blurry hi hi hi...

The Fun Part About Learning a New Language

One of the things I LOVE about my full-time course is laughing with my classmates. Sometimes some of us create funny sentences, but sometimes misunderstanding makes us give the wrong replies.

For example, today the teacher is teaching us to answer questions about our fave clothing item, our fave food, our fave colour, and our fave singer.

One of us misunderstood the teacher when she asked about his fave clothing. He answered, "Strawberry."

All of us couldn't help laughing out loud hi hi hi hi hi...

Another one of us misunderstood the same question and answered, "Banana."

HUI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI...She laughed along with us he he he...The teacher laughed, too. ;-D

Ahhhh...laughing is good. Laughing keeps us young HO HO HO...

Killer Math Teacher

I was going to post a link to my wedding pics as those of you who've known me later in this blogosphere probably haven't seen them yet. Karen has asked me to show my wedding pics, but I'm afraid it'll have to wait 'coz photobucket's undergoing maintenance right now. But I promise you, Karen, that I'll show you my wedding pics, OK? HE HE HE HE HE...

Now let me talk about my killer Math teacher in High School. Since Trin also went to the same High School (a couple of years my senior, though), I bet she knew the guy, as well he he he...He's been VERY famous in my school.

I've never been too good at Math, though I've never really been bad at it, either. My High School was considered one of the best in Bandung. Every year on our senior year, we have to go through a National Exam. The national exam comprises of several subjects, one of which is Math. My High School had held the highest mean score in this national Math exam, so my killer teacher wanted us to get good scores for the exam.

The year before I became a senior at that school, the mean score was 79, so that killer teacher wanted us to get at least 80 for EVERY test that he gave us. If we got a lower score than that, then we would have to stay at school after everybody went home to do some exercises. He would appoint his star kids to help us do the exercises after school. Sometimes the punishment was to write down our test 5 times to make sure that we'd remember the right answers. I managed to get good grades most of the time, but there were a few times when I had to do the punishment. YIKES!!!!

He was always single and skinny. He had perfect teeth 'coz he brought a toothbrush to school. He'd brush his teeth after lunch (I caught him do that once). He also demanded the kids to sit up straight during his classes and not to slouch on our chairs. He also demanded us to be quiet, otherwise he might throw the eraser or anything toward the student who talked a lot. He also demanded enough supply of chalk of different colours 'coz he loved writing notes on the blackboard with different colours of chalk. Though skinny, his voice was SO booming. Whenever he got angry and yelled at us, his voice could be heard over three classrooms!!!!!

Back in those days, the class organizers would appoint which kids had duties on which days (the girls had to prepare the chalk for the teachers and get the table cloth for the teacher's desk and the flowers, whereas the boys would have to take turns cleaning up the blackboard right after the teacher finished writing something all over it). So whoever had duties on the days he had his lessons would have to be PREPARED!!! If one of the boys in charge to clean the blackboard didn't come up right away to clean it, he would get mad. He'd also get mad if the girls in charge didn't prepare enough chalk of different colours for him.

The girls had to go to this office to get the chalk. The problem was that the guy in charge of giving the chalk was VERY stingy. He wouldn't allow us to bring as many chalks as we wanted to, so we always had to fight with him to get more chalk he he he he...Crazy indeed!!! ;-D

Anyway, our fave day was on his birthday. We knew he was single and he LOVED pets, so on his birthday, the students would always bought him rabbits or turtles or cute yellow chicks and we'd throw a little party. Why? Because only on that day he'd loosen up and joke with us and forget about lessons and exams. Only on that day we could all HAVE FUN with him without feeling any pressure. We'd bring balloons and a cake, as well he he he he...Yeah, so festive!!!

One bad thing about him was that back then, usually he would ask the boys to go to his place after school as punishment for getting bad grades. However, sometimes he'd ask the students to post something for him or escort him somewhere instead of making them do exercises. This made the male students upset and angry. Thus during my last year in High School, the boys finally couldn't take it anymore and they reported him to our headmaster. So for the last few weeks before our national exam, the teacher was suspended from teaching us. What happened during his lessons, then? We all had fun playing games with one another ha ha ha ha ha...

Then right before national exam started, our killer Math teacher came into our classroom along with our headmaster and apologized formally in front of us. He shook all our hands and it was such a touching moment. I saw some of the male students' eyes got wet because of that. All's well that ends well, I guess.

I remember one funny incident, though. When he was still teaching, the girl that sat next to me (who became one of my closest friends) was VERY GOOD at Math. My Math teacher appointed her to be one of the kids who helped other students do exercises after school as punishment for getting bad grades in his tests. One time my Math teacher told me to solve something on the blackboard. You see, in our school, we had to go up two steps (on a kind of stairs) in order to write something on the blackboard 'coz the blackboard was hung high on the wall. I knew I couldn't solve that particular Math problem, so I was SO afraid when I stepped on the stairs. Before I knew it, I thought there was some kind of small earthquake 'coz the stairs kept on moving. But then I realized that my legs were SHAKING so badly and since the stairs weren't too level on the ground, then it shook along with my legs, can you believe it? Funnily, the teacher didn't scold me like he used to do when he realized I couldn't solve it. Maybe he understood how scared I was by seeing my legs so that he just let me go that one time he he he he...

Ahhhh...memoriessss...I'm SO glad I only had one killer teacher in my entire life. No more, please he he he he...

Post Note: I got a VERY good Math score on my national exam that year. I think that year we managed to beat the previous year's mean Math score. ;-D

Funny Language Debacles

I went to visit a website called 6d and found this article on funny language debacles. I'll only copy one paragraph written by Sally Armbrecht and you can read the rest of the article here.

When I came to Finland it never occurred to me that my name, Sally, would be mistaken for a Finnish slang word and cause confusion. The first occasion was when my boyfriend’s aunt called her daughter in Canada, telling her, “Timo has started to date an American Sally.” She slightly mispronounced my name and said sälli, a slang word for ‘dude’. At some point the phone call was cut short, and the result was that for a couple of weeks this cousin thought that Timo had come out of the closet and was dating a guy from America.

I advise you to read the article, especially if you need a laugh or two today (who doesn't?). *wink*

If I ever have funny experiences with Finnish, I'll surely write them down in this blog for your entertainment. ;-D

Matrix Ping-Pong + TV Tetris Game

A friend of mine sent it to me a while ago but I kept on forgetting to post it. Just an entertaining video clip for Sunday (after the serious post I wrote the other day HE HE HE). In Japan there's this TV show where people get to show their creativity in front of a panel of judges and an audience. The highest score is 20 and in the end the best of the best will get money he he he...Enjoy it!
