Christmas Parade

ARGGGHHH!!! I missed the X-mas parade on Friday night, but then again my friend Michelle said that it wasn't too good hi hi hi...You can see pics about the parade in her blog: Arctic Rainbow.

I did go out to meet her downtown as they also had some dances in front of the tourist local info office (the place where I used to have a training for a month). The snow was falling all the time while we were there, so it was SO hard to take good pics. I still don't know which feature is the best for this type of condition. Anyway, I took a video clip of it and here it is (I combined 5 short video clips in this video):

Waiting for Tomorrow

This week's training went very well. I enjoyed myself immensely! ;-D There're plenty of things to do every day, but it doesn't make me stressed out or frustrated. Isn't that the best type of a job? HA HA HA HA HA...

I can't wait to try skiing tomorrow. Not downhill skiing, though. Saw a big slider at Lidl (the shape of a butt where you can sit on and R2 says that you can slide downhill on it). Unfortunately I can only try it in spring since right now even though there's plenty of snow already, it's too soft to slide on. R2 says he'll buy it for me as a bday gift ha ha ha...So once we bought it, I'll show you the picture, OK?

Today after work I helped a friend who was moving to Jyväskylä in Southern Finland. He had SO many things to bring and he was going there by bus, so he needed someone to wait on his things as he got back and forth to his apartment to get the rest of the stuff. So I did that and surprise, surprise...he gave me a pot of X-mas flowers!!! ;-D I didn't expect that since I knew he was short on money, especially when moving to a new apartment, you had to pay guarantee money. But it was such a nice gesture! ;-D

We went our separate ways and then I decided to go out again to find some X-mas gifts for R2's family members. I only bought two gifts this time. R2 can find the rest hi hi hi hi...

Almost forgot...while waiting for my friend I saw a lovely sky dance. There were at first around 50 birds flying about TOGETHER in harmony! They were dancing here and there and then they "plopped themselves unto" the branches of one bald tree. It was SO gorgeous. Then a few minutes later I saw about 20-30 more birds doing the same dance and they also went to the same tree. Ohhhhh...how I wished I had brought my camera with me. It was a bit farther away, so I couldn't see what kind of birds they were, but it was just breathtaking...I LOVE this place!!!!

3BT: Random Days

Note: Been busy with many things, so I haven't been able to blog or blog-hop. I'll do it during the weekend, OK?

1. Being given a small project to do at the library. My personal small project. Even though it doesn't involve too much thinking, it takes a while to do and it's gonna be useful to everybody who comes to the library. It feels GOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDD to be able to contribute to the greater good of the society he he he...Come to think of it, working at the library may be my dream job in Finland he he...

2. Having VERY supportive colleagues. They also start asking me questions about myself: how long I've lived here, if I like living here, etc.

3. A colleague brought Vienetta ice-cream to the library, so we ate it together HO HO HO...I should bring something too, later on...to celebrate my b-day he he he...

4. It's been snowing A LOT these days. I LOVEEEEEEEEE ITTTTTTTTTT!!!!! Fresh snow always looks SO glorious! They glitter under street lights like tiny tiny beads of diamonds...mmmmm...

5. Homemade pepper steak. This conversation happened when R2 got home and I had just finished baking the pepper steak in the oven:

Me: There's some pepper steak and french fries in the oven. Aren't you going to eat?
R2: I'm noooooottt hungggrrryyy...do I have to eat?????
Me: No, I was just saying that I left one piece of pepper steak and some french fries in the oven (I turned it off already, but it was still hot - I just wanted to keep them hot for him just in case he wanted some).
R2: Okaaaayyy...I guess I'll just take a little bit.

He took a small piece of pepper steak and some french fries...and guess what happened? After finishing the portion, he took THE REST and finished IT ALL! HUA HA HA HA HA HA...

Me: I seeeeee...so the guy who said that he wasn't hungry then took a little bit of pepper steak and french fries to taste, and now he suddenly took another portion and finished every little bit of it?????
R2: Yeah, DANG YOU!!! It was because you made it too tasty!!!

LOL LOL LOL!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the compliment, Honey! It feels GOOD to be able to cook something that he likes SO much, though it was my first time trying to make pepper steak. WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

6. The library manager is such a considerate person. She always pays attention to me and involve me in conversations. She's also a smiley woman. :-)))))

7. Buying some things for some people HO HO HO HO HO...

8. Planning a "date" night with my Hungarian friend next Friday as R2 will have a small X-mas party with his gaming buddies somewhere. I'm planning to cook some food for her so that she can taste Asian food HE HE HE HE HE HE HE...

Explanation About My Training

For those of you who may be confused...let me tell you that this type of training I'm doing is not a real job. It doesn't guarantee my getting a job (ideally it would, but I doubt it since it's a small village and I know they have enough workers there). It's not a "trial period" before you get a real job and I'm not getting any salary for doing it. However, I'm going to get some benefit (in the form of money, though not as big as a real salary) from the government for doing this training (well, that's BETTER than nothing, right?).

The thing is...I don't know what kind of job I want to do here in Sodankylä. I don't really want to do cleaning jobs if I don't really have to, but I also want to practise my Finnish and socialize a bit instead of just being cooped up at home, waiting for R2 to come home. The unemployment office here encourages me to go try finding a training place if I still don't know what type of job I want to do (if I'm not confident enough to apply for any real job yet). So I was the one who had to ask the library manager if I could do the training there.

I just found out, though, that this type of training can only last for MAX. 3 months. My contract is only for one month and it can be extended until 3 months, but no more. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to extend it or not. Besides, it all depends on the library manager, too. If she doesn't need my help anymore, then I won't be able to extend it.

But I thought to myself, "Why not try, right? I'm going to get some extra money even though it's not too much, but if I don't use the money, it's all VERY good. Plus I get some experience and I get Finnish practise and I get to know more about the work places in Sodankylä."

So my training will be over on December 23rd. If I want and can extend it, I'll probably do it before this contract is over. If not, I'll just see what else I can find...if I can't find any interesting jobs that I can apply to yet, I'm going to try to find an interesting course to apply to. We'll see how it goes.

So far so good he he he he he...OK, let me blog-hop a bit. Still have no time to blog-hop too much since I had to go to supermarket after work and then cook he he he...so sorry, people, I'll try to catch up bit by bit, OK? TAKE CAREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Day 1 of Training

INTERESTING!!! That's what I can say about being a helper at the library he he he...

First I was introduced to everybody who was there, then I had to wait for my trainer for about 10 minutes. She came and then showed me around the place. She told me about how they organized the shelves and the books on the shelves. Then she told me about the process of putting the books to the shelves: they had to find out what the books were, then they had to put plastic covers and bar code label and some other label. Then they had to register the books to the bar code machine before putting them on the shelves. Old books were put in their small warehouse. It was COOL to know all these things!

My first task was to return the returned books to the shelves. Then I had to organize Christmas books on a special shelf. Then I was told how to use the bar code machine as they took out some old books from the warehouse. Then I was told to stamp plenty of old cassettes with the label "taken out".

So it's been FAR busier than my other two training experiences. I just hope it keeps up he he he he...well, even if I don't have too much to do on other days, I can always read something as they have SO MANY books he he he he...

I want to sit on it and slide down the snowy hill one day he he he...Actually, it's also VERY practical to drag your son/daughter on the sled while going out, unless your kid acts up and runs away HA HA HA HA HA...

Third pic: These birds are flying around the bridge-river area and then they landed on the frozen river for a little while. It was a BEAUTIFUL sight as they flew here and there together as a group...mmmm...

1. Visited two friends, talked to the first one for about 4 hours, then went back home to have dinner and then visited the second one and talked for about 6 hours HUE HE HE HE HE HE...

2. Tomorrow's my first training day at the library and I'm EXCITED HO HO HO HO HO HO...

3. My MIL told me that she'd bake me a bday cake for me this Saturday HUA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...

4. Walking home under a BEAUTIFUL starry sky twinkling at me...as if they wanted to flirt with me hi hi hi hi hi...

5. Hubby's now making pancakes for us while I'm typing these words. WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

6. Eating freshly-baked CRISPY garlic bread on a cold night...mmm...

7. Pepper steak for the both of us at around 1 am HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...I was SO glad I decided to buy some while walking home from my friend's house since hubby was STARVING!!! And he said thank you after eating HI HI HI HI...

The Nothingness of Us

Yesterday I had a SUPER long chat with the second friend I visited. We jumped from one topic to another and we got to the part where we shared our views about Sodankylä. We shared everything we had experienced so far. We agreed that one of the things we loved the most about Sodankylä is the fact that the sky felt limitless, especially if you go to an open field. Just look up and you'd be swallowed in the greatness of the sky and you'll feel that you're really nothing. Nothing. Nothing...

My friend said that it was ironic that the feeling of being nothing made her feel so...FREE!!! I mean, logically speaking, that feeling should really make you feel bad, shouldn't it?

I said to her that what she said made sense. I started thinking about it. I come up with this answer: I feel that sometimes we humans tend to be arrogant. We feel that we can do anything and we can achieve anything. Earth and its resources are OURS. We go day by day striving to be better, to do better, to achieve, to achieve more, to achieve even higher goals...competition is tight, we have to always be alert...we have to keep on improving...more and more and more...Technology has advanced SO much...we can even clone animals and perhaps humans too if our ethics don't close that door...and we begin to lose the ability to feel awed bit by bit...

On the rare occasions when we're feeling awed about the universe and we feel like we're really nothing, all those "burdens" and "races that we're in" are suddenly "put at the back of our minds". We're stripped away of all those things...and we feel free in our nothingness. After all, we are NOTHING.

I'm NOT saying that we shouldn't strive to be better. I'm NOT saying that we shouldn't strive to improve. I'm NOT saying that we shouldn't be responsible beings. All I'm saying is that this kind of feeling is liberating and I wish everybody feel it every once in a while in their lives!!!

Another thing that my friend said about life in Sodankylä resonated with what I felt when I was in big cities. Many people are such in a hurry in life...they try to fill every single moment with activities...they grow agitated when there's nothing surrounding them except nature and serenity and they can't wait to do something to fill the moments. Do, do, do, go, go, go, next task, next errand, next appointment, next meeting...always in a rush because there's traffic, there's a long line, there are demands, demands, demands, deadlines, deadlines, deadlines...even typing these words make me feel tired.

So let me just bask in the glory of nature again...last night I walked home from my second's friend's place underneath a starry sky...mmm...it was -17'C and I just wanted to lie down on a field and enjoy the beauty...

Girls' Day + Ken

Soon enough after lunch I'm going to walk to my friend's house and stay there until R2 picks me up since it's pretty cold out there hi hi hi...And in the evening I'll go visit another friend HUA HA HA HA HA HA HA...

Since tomorrow as usual I'll go to Kelujärvi, I'm afraid I'll be MIA until Saturday night or Sunday morning. After all, this is my last weekend of freedom before my training starts. What are you doing this weekend, people?????? Have a BLESSED weekend, friends!!!

This morning when I checked my mailbox, found several pics of Ken from my brother. YIIIHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Here are some of them...








I'm never good at deciding whether a baby looks more like the dad or the mom, so what do you think? Does Ken look more like my bro or Shen? Or is it too early to tell? HE HE HE HE HE...

Two days ago I called Mom and Shen picked up the phone. After hearing stories about Ken from her and Mom, I think Ken's such a strong boy. I'm GLAD to hear that he's healthy. Funny thing is that the doctor says that he doesn't cry enough, so when they visited the doctor, he told them to let him cry for a minute HE HE HE HE HE HE...

Well, as is the tradition in Indonesia, both my bro and Ken are going to give some cake to all the people who've given them gifts for Ken. Guess how many cakes they are ordering? 260!!! Yes, you read it right!!!

I can't imagine how crazy it'll be for them. That's why they decide to separate the cake-sending-process into THREE days and they'll ask some cousins' help to do that. My bro even takes some days off from work due to this reason he he he he he...but the good news is that Shen says that probably they don't need to buy clothes for Ken until he's 4 or 5 years old HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...

Now you understand why they had 700 wedding guests, right? Each of them have MANY friends and both families are BIG families and they have MANY church friends, too. Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk...I'm GLAD they're happy and healthy, though. ;-D

P.S. Upon seeing the pics, without realizing it, I started talking to Ken's pictures as if he were right in front of me HUA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...

Two nights ago I watched a show on TV about women who seek professional help in terms of their sexual life. They visit a well-known masturbation coach in America.

Anyway, one woman who comes from the UK hasn't made love to her husband for 10 years to due pain. She's gone to MANY MANY doctors who say that the pain is all in her mind. So as a last resort, she comes to this coach. The coach talks to her and then she finds out that she can't complete the session due to PAIN, PAIN, PAIN. A simple touch makes her grit her teeth in pain. The coach asks her if that happens whenever she makes love and she says yes. Mind you that she's got a teenage daughter already! Anyway, the coach then asks what happens then during making love. She says that she always has to endure the pain by grabbing a pillow or stifle her screams.

Uggghhhh...the coach says, "No wonder you're abstain from sex for 10 years!" Then she finds an explanation from a book about vulvodynia. Just click on the link to read what it is about.

What shocked me was that they find out that one out of TEN women in the UK suffer from this condition one time or another. It doesn't matter whether you've given birth or not, it can happen to you.

Anyway, the woman goes back to the UK and she and her husband are RELIEVED that now they know what is actually going on. For years and years she thought that she had made it up, especially since many doctors said that it was all in her head. Now that they know what it is, they can take steps to try to deal with the problem.
