New Shoes + The Little Mermaid

In my last post, I forgot to say that I had ordered a new pair of boots. They were on a sale in one Finnish website. I also ordered a pair of sports shoes for Arttu's birthday. Even though his birthday is in March, but still I thought that it'd be cheaper for me to buy them in one package so that I'd only pay one shipping fee he he he he...

I decided to buy a new pair of boots since my two boots are a bit too tight if I need to wear two pairs of thicker socks. I found the boots online and they cost only €20 (compared to the ones in the stores in Sodankylä which are still WAY costlier than that even after they're on sale!!!).

I also asked Arttu to try on his shoes just in case they didn't fit. After all, we could return them if they didn't fit. I haven't paid for them yet since I can opt to pay it next month HE HE HE HE HE HE HE HE...^_________________________^ Oh, and yeah, fortunately they DO fit.

OK, now let's talk about my second topic: The Little Mermaid.

When I was small, I remembered watching the original version of The Little Mermaid (not the Disney version with a happy ending). I still remember it clearly as if it was yesterday. I was hoping that the mermaid could end up with the prince, yet the prince didn't recognize her as she had lost her voice in order to be a human. I was crying profusely at the end of the movie as I thought it was SO unfair. She had lost her beautiful voice just to be with the prince, yet the prince didn't know that it was her and he ended up marrying someone else!!!

Come to think of it, I think it was the first time I started hating sad endings. I no longer hate sad endings that much now, except for some sad endings in which I think the hero or the heroine dies for nothing.

How about you? Do you dislike sad endings, too? Or do you think they're important as they reveal that real life isn't "they live happily ever after"?

I grew up watching Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and all those wonderful cartoons. I also grew up reading lots of fairy tales, including Hans Christian Andersen's stories. I remember having two THICK volumes of fairy tales with WONDERFUL illustrated works of art. I LOVED being immersed in a different world, a world where reality didn't reign. A world where imagination runs amok. What a free-spirited world!!!

How about you? What did you grow up with? ;-D

  2. Amel you are so blessed to have had such a wonderful childhood.

Mine was not as fortunate. No-one ever read me any stories.

But, I do have a vivid memory of the first time I saw The Wizard of Oz. I thought it was all really true and that she really wasn't going to get home.

I sat there and cried and cried for her. But, then of course at the very end I found out it was only a dream and I was so happy.

I like both happy and sad endings. It all depends on the story line.

You have such a talent for relaying so much inspiration and self-awreness. And, you do it all with such bautiful simplicity.

You take something as simple as new boots and fairy tales and turn it into an awe inspiring post that in reality touches a very deep issue.

    I admire you very,very much!!
    Hugs,
    Jackie:)

  5. I always loved the Disney movies... I think my favorite childhood movies were Marry Poppins and The Wizard of Oz...

But by the time I was 6 or 7, I had written numerous little stories, and some of them had happy endings and some had sad endings, even at that age. It was in 1st grade, I remember this, we had to write our own version of "Jack and the Beanstalk". Apparently I didn't feel like Jack should make it home.

I still have stories that I wrote then... and they're so amusing to read now. I had an extensive imagination even for being so young...

I don't know... but sometimes we do need to see the "fairytale" endings. Just to kind of cheer us up sometimes.

  7. I like happy endings. The book I'm reading now I'm not sure how it will end up, the middle was so sad.

I enjoyed Bambi and Fox and the Hound when I was little.

  8. Hey Amel, I didn't watch so much movies when I was younger but I loved reading fairy tales. In fact, I only read fairy tales! Maybe that's why I wasn't so prepared for the real world after I left school.

  10. Jeanne: Yeah, I LOVE his stories, too!!! :-)))

Shinade: DON'T WORRY about the spelling. I do that too when I'm tired he he he...

Sorry to hear that nobody read you stories. My Mom used to do it before I learnt to read myself, then I began to read on my own.

THANKS for your compliment, Jackie! :-))) I admire you too, the way you've grown so much from the past...the way you combine beautiful images and quotations and posts. :-))))

    HUGS back!!! ;-D

Jay: Yeah, it was really CRUEL for the mermaid he he he...

I haven't worn the new boots yet, but I LOVE 'em! ;-D

Katelyn: The first time I saw Mary Poppins was when I was at the uni, can you believe it? HA HA HA HA HA...So it wasn't my childhood movie hi hi hi...

WOW!!! You wrote your own stories even from such a young age? You should consider writing as a profession then he he...

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you about your last paragraph. I also think that we DO need to see beautiful endings just to let us feel that that goodness wins in the end. ;-D

Kelcey: Hi, Girlllll!!!! I've been doing fine, thanks. Hope you're too! ;-D

BP: I've never seen Bambi before, though I read a book about it once, I think. :-))))

Blur Ting: HA HA HA HA HA HA...Well, the real world isn't as fun as the world in fairy tales, eh? ;-D

Juliana: Yeah, I saw the video clip of that series in youtube and I wouldn't want to watch it till the end, either HI HI HI HI HI...

  11. I had the book with the real Little mermaid story. I can still remember the lasy picture of her dead looking down from clouds. It was so sad. I hated that book.

My most favourite book was my mom's favourite book from her childhood. It was old and not exciting to look at it, with a grey green cover, but inside was magic! Fairy Tales of the Grimm's brothers.

Those stories are still magic. :-)

  12. I love fairy tales and still do he he he... I think we grew up watching almost the same movies, Amel. One of my favourites is 'The Wizard of Oz'. ;D

When I was younger, I also hated stories with sad endings... Sometimes, I blamed the movie maker (producer) for being so fool to end a nice story like that!! Ha ha ha...

  13. DANG!!! I didn't get any notification about these comments. GRRRR!!!

Michelle: You hated that story, too, eh? Yeah...I was crying so hard when she turned into foams...ugh ugh ugh...

Ah, I think I read the Grimm's brothers Fairy Tales, too! ;-D I LOVE fairy tales he he he...

Choc Mint Girl: That's COOL!!! I think it's because our age isn't too far apart so we grew up watching similar movies he he he...

However, I only watched The Wizard of Oz when I was in Junior High School, I think.

HA HA HA HA HA...I know what you mean about blaming the producers. "How dare you crush a little girl's hope? HOW DARE YOU?!?!?!" LOL LOL!!!!
