Baby Blues, Finnish Humor, and Quotations

To you all mothers out there, have you experienced baby blues or post-partum depression? If so, how long did it last and how did you get through it? The reason I'm asking about this is because some friends have experienced this period of mood swing right after they gave birth to their babies. I'm just curious, that's all he he he he...

Oh yeah, since Frasypoo's dishing out a list of Indian humor, let me share some Finnish humor. Helsingin Sanomat posted this long list, but I'll only write down what I've experienced or witnessed myself.

You Know You Have Been In Finland Too Long, When...

a. You don't think twice about putting the wet dishes away in the cupboard to dry. ----> Yep, that's VERY true indeed he he he...I don't dry my dishes with a kitchen towel unless when I want to eat and the plate is wet HA HA HA HA HA...

b. Silence is fun. ----> Too talkative people in Finland are considered "not the norm".

c.
Your coffee consumption exceeds 6 cups a day and coffee is too weak if there is less than two spoonfuls per person. ----> I don't drink much coffee unless when I visit my in-laws, 'coz I can't sleep if I drink too much coffee, but the Finns DO love their coffee SO MUCH!!!

d. Sundays no longer seem dull with all the stores closed, and begin to feel restful instead. ----> Well, actually some supermarkets are open on Sundays, but the other stores are closed. I used to think it'd be SUPER dull 'coz in Indonesia, all the malls are open on weekends (from 9 to 9 pm or 10 to 10 pm).

e. You no longer look at sports pants as casual wear, but recognize them as almost formal wear.

Okay, I haven't browsed for quotations for a while, so let me see some good quotations that I can share with all of you:

Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them - every day begin the task anew.
Saint Francis de Sales

If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.
Mary Pickford

Rest assured there will be times when you fall flat on your face. It will seem as if the harder you pray, the more you attempt to trust, the more holy and devout you become, the worse your life will appear to be. Things that were going well will go wrong. Things that were not so well will blow up in your face. It is a trick! Do not be fooled by appearances! Hold on to the words, the phrase, the prayer, the little bits of trust and faith you can muster. You are not being tested! You are being fortified! Remember, you cannot fail! All paths lead to the same road. The road to peace, joy, and the memory of God's Unconditional Love."

  2. Post natal depression is rather common though I'm glad I didn't experience it. We have read of really bad cases where the mother smother their baby or throw them out of the window.

  3. Unfortunately, I am not a mother :P

    a) hehe, everything gets dried on the sink :P

    b) Well, they do say silence is golden

    c) Somehow, coffee never works for me even if I drink alot... Either that or I need alot more... But try tea, it's better for you than coffee or even an apple.

    d) lol, ours are open shit hours...

    e) lmao, that's amusing.. I burst out laughing when I saw that. But truth, a good sense of fashion is crucial in todays world...

Interesting quotations: I remember reading somewhere that religion is always in a fight with science...

    hehehe

  4. Yeah, one of my friends told me that at first she didn't want to look at her baby right after giving birth and asked her mom to bring the baby home...even though the baby's fine and she has normal marriage...After a few days, she's okay.

    a. I seldom wipe the dishes only for parties and serving...he he...

    b. Too much silence is boredom... :D

    c. More like Italians...I don't like my coffee if it's too thick...I never like espresso!

    d. You're right! "What am I going to do, then?!" LOL!!

    e. It's something normal these days...he he...

Great quotations!! Thanks for sharing. :)

Shan: Coffee never works for you? Tsk tsk tsk...Yeah, I should drink some tea later on. THX for the two cents he he...

That's true about religion versus science he he he he...

Choc Mint Girl: One of your friends experienced that? Gladly she was OK after a few days. Phew!!!

HA HA HA HA HA...Yeah, I know what you mean about too much silence hi hi hi hi hi...

I LOVE Espresso, though! ;-D But I avoid drinking coffee too much 'coz I just can't sleep he he...

LOL!!! Yeah, back in Indo I used to go out on Sundays, too (to the malls), but here I can't do it.

  6. Thankfully, I have no post-partum stories to share!
Those are some good quotes...I have been thinking about doing a post on "mistakes". I might have to borrow that quote from you if I do that one.

  7. Kathy: I'm glad to hear you didn't experience it! ;-D Looking forward to reading your post on "mistakes". Funny thing was that I wasn't looking for any quotation in particular but dunno why that "theme" kept on popping up everywhere. ;-D

  8. Hey I know about Finnish better now.. LOL... it is so strange to let the wet dishes on the cupboard to dry! I need to know more about your experiences about housework... who knows I can imitate your style so we have less chores in this house.. LOL

I have only one maid now! So I don't have much time to blog.. hehe

  9. Trinity: Hmmm...well, over here it's not as dusty as Indo, so I only vacuum or sweep the floor once a week. Plus I don't iron clothes as they're not as wrinkly as in Indo, so that saves a lot of time. Hubby's not a fussy person so he doesn't mind putting on a T-shirt that's a bit wrinkled. After all, in this cold country, you still wear a sweater, so the sweater covers the wrinkles on the T-shirt ha ha ha ha ha...

I think it's easier for me to clean up this place 'coz it's a small apartment (I don't have to care about cleaning the yard) and there are less utensils that we use...no kids yet, either, to mess up the whole place.

Ah...yeah, I understand your being busy, Trin. :-)))
