Polar Bear Plunge

I was browsing the internet when I found out about Polar Bear Plunge in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Apparently there are people as crazy as the Finns! *grin*

This event is held annually there in NJ where thousands of people run off and plunge themselves into the Atlantic Ocean which is still icy cold. This truly reminds me of a Finnish habit of plunging themselves into holes made in ice in between sauna. I can't even imagine how cold it is! Yikes!!!

Anyway, lots of people who take part in the Polar Bear Plunge wear costumes. Why? Because there's a Costume Competition, as well! This event was originated in February 1994. Back then there were only around 100 people watching a few "plungers", but nowadays there are over 10,000 people watching around 1,000 crazy plungers.

Wanna see the chaos that ensued back in 2006? I decided not to put up the 2007 video clip as I thought this one would do he he...Enjoy it!!!
